The men’s and women’s varsity bowling team enjoyed success, hitting the lanes at Beaver-Vu on February 27th, advancing three members to districts.

Previously, the girls placed 9th out of 16 teams at sectionals on February 20th. The lone team member advancing to districts for the girls was junior Lindsay Abbott, while the other senior girls, unfortunately, saw their season come to a close. It was one heck of a ride; “It was bittersweet, because it was fun being with my team one last time, but it was sad because I knew it was my last time being a part of KBT,” senior Anna-Claire Barker told The Knight Times.

At sectionals, the boys’ varsity team was no stranger to excellence, as they saw two team members advance: Matthew Oberlin and Justin Bayse. Oberlin led the squad at sectionals, bowling a game that tallied a score of 697. His teammates were not far behind, as juniors Justin Bayse, Gabe Johnson, and Erik Middlekamp earned respective scores of 598, 547, and 544. Kings placed 8th overall, with all team members bowling a combined score of 2814. Oberlin, Bayse, Johnson, and Middlekamp enjoyed a strong showing on the leaderboards, respectively placing 3rd, 17th, 29th, and 33rd overall.

“I wish I would’ve been more relaxed and had a little more fun,” reflects Oberlin on his personal performance. “I’m a competitive person, so I get frustrated when I’m not doing too good, and people just don’t get that.”

Oberlin ultimately ended up placing 4th for sectionals overall and 1st for individuals, and later placed 25th at districts. Teammate Justin Bayse would score a game of 584 at districts, placing 68th for individuals.

Also, at districts, Bayse bowled a game totaling 584 points, while lone female team member–junior Lindsay Abbott–scored a game of 481.

Although they were sad to see their season end, the seniors were proud of their performance and left behind a legacy to be remembered without regrets. “[I’ll miss] the feel of it all, especially the practices…we had fun all together and tried not to take it too seriously while still doing our best,” said senior Avery Herd.

The seniors want the underclassmen on the team to have the best season they possibly can next year.

“Just have fun and don’t put too much pressure on yourself,” Herd recommended. “You’ll definitely have off days, but it’s a fun sport if you keep your mood up during a match, and just have fun with your teammates.”
