“The Red Sea” has come out in big numbers to show their support for the volleyball team, contributing to the team’s success this season. The volleyball team sits at the top of the ECC with an 18-4 record.

The stands at home games are filled with students and The Red Sea has even made it out to away games at Little Miami and Lebanon. This support translates to the game in big ways.

“Having the energy of the student section definitely helps the team,” said senior Kate Barrett. “We thrive off of their energy and that helps us when it comes to a set five situation where we need to dig deep and win the game.”

This support has not always been there though. In past years, the student section has rarely shown up to games, but this year it is different. Students have turned out in big numbers for games all season in support of their classmates.

“I’m so extremely grateful for everyone who came to our games this year! In years past we haven’t really had a big student section and it means so much to all of us to see how much support people are giving us,” said Barrett.

All of this support would not have been possible without the connection of students on social media. The Instagram account @barstoolkings_ is responsible for coordinating the student section. The account shows a lot of support by posting the game schedules and the themes for each game. The owner of the account, senior Michael Sarchet, is a big supporter of the volleyball team, and makes sure that the Red Sea is at the games in full force.

I think it’s important to attend all sporting events around the school to show support for everyone and bring the student body together,” said Sarchet.

As a football player, Sarchet knows how it feels to have that support from the students.

“Having students at a game is such a great feeling on a Friday night. I just want every sport to feel that love and support.”

Volleyball relies on constantly changing momentum, so having a loud student section contributes to the energy of the game.

“I think the student section helps the girls play better and bring more attention to their success. It is so important to have a student section at our games because it shows how much the school supports us. It also helps us with our energy and staying competitive and hungry for every point,” said Barrett.
