Knight Madness Launches Winter Sports

On Saturday, Nov. 16, to celebrate the kickoff of the winter sports season, the Kings Athletic department will present the annual Knight Madness celebration at the high school..

Kings has held Knight Madness since the late 90’s. The event has been growing ever since. The night starts at 5:30 p.m. with dinner from Jersey Mike’s for $5 a person. The meal includes a sub, chips, a drink, and ice cream.

The festivities start at 7 p.m. All winter sports teams, including Men and Women’s Basketball, Cheerleading, Wrestling, Swimming, Bowling, Dance Team, Indoor Track, and Academic Teams, will participate in games , scrimmages, and other fun activities.

There will also be performances from the Cheerleaders, Dance Team, and Firecrackers. At the end of the night the Men and Women’s Basketball teams will be introduced, followed by a paper airplane contest to win the grand prize, an Xbox 360.

Admission is $3 a person or you can buy a T-shirt for $10 and get in for free.

The event is organized by Mike Stevens, Kings High School Basketball coach.MADNESS 2

Stevens said the event is important because of “all the different activities and everybody coming together as a school.”

KHS Junior, Trey Staton, is a member of the basketball team and has been participating in Knight Madness for three years . He said it is a great way for the basketball team to start off the season. Staton’s favorite part of the night is when the basketball teams get introduced. He is also really looking forward to the Firecrackers and Dance Team performances.

“The Firecrackers will bring a lot of excitement and the basketball team has a lot of cool things planned.”
