Banshee already packing Kings Island
With spring now here, local amusement park Kings Island has opened once again along with their new roller coaster the Banshee.
The stomach-churning ride is the world’s longest inverted steel coaster, with seven inversions throughout the ride. There is 4,124 feet of track, a 167-foot hill, and lots of loops, flips, and twists (including a zero gravity roll) all while going at a speed of 68 miles per hour.
Textured lighting and other effects will help make the night rides even better. This ride is also the first female- inspired coaster at a Cedar Fair amusement park and was specifically designed just for Kings Island.
“The response to Banshee has been overwhelming,” says Kings Island Public Relations Manager Don Helbig. “People from all over the world are planning a visit to Kings Island this summer specifically to ride this new record-breaking coaster.”
Although early excitement over the ride has made for some long lines at the park, Helbig said the Banshee is a very efficient ride, having three operating trains with eight cars each. It can send thrill-seekers on approximately 1,650 riders per hour.
One of the first riders on opening day, Kings sophomore Veronica Hartley, has ridden the Banshee seven times already.
“It was crazy and exhilarating, it doesn’t even compare to the other rides,” Hartley said.
