This year’s Knight Madness logo was designed by KHS Junior Anthony Mussari and will adorn event T-shirts.

This Saturday marks the official tip-off to the Winter Sports season at Kings. Knight Madness is an annual celebration in which the 2014-2015 sports teams will be announced and recognized throughout the entire Kings community.

The teams attending Knight Madness will include Men’s and Women’s Basketball, Swimming, Bowling, Indoor Track, Wrestling, the Academic Quiz Team, Dance Team, and Cheerleading.

Each winter sports team will take part in some sort of activity or contest, such as tug-of-war. For the public, there will also be a $1000 half-court shot contest, a paper airplane contest, and split the pot. Headlining the night will be a special performance by the Kings Firecrackers.

The celebration has been a tradition at Kings for over 20 years, and is run by Mike Stevens, Men’s Varsity Basketball coach.

“The first Knight Madness was in 1993, and back then we started it at midnight. That tradition didn’t last long,” said Stevens, “but the event itself stuck.”

Knight Madness 2014 will begin at 7 p.m. in the KHS Gym. The cost at the door will be $3, but with the purchase of a Knight Madness t-shirt, admission is free.

Jimmy John’s is catering, and for $4 one will receive a sub, chips, and a drink. The doors open for dinner at 5:30 p.m.

According to Stevens, “Knight Madness is truly a community event, made to give these teams exposure to all of Kings, and make people excited for the upcoming season.”
