KHS Track sets sights on ECC
Coming off of a Boys 2nd place finish and a Girls 3rd place finish in the ECC last year, this year’s Kings Track & Field team is hungry for the ECC title.
Lead by Seniors Josh Haverland, Ryan Broerman and Chris Jantzen, The Boys team looks for their first ever ECC Championship, while the Girls, who also seek their first championship, are lead by Seniors Mary Claire Bauman and Brooke Conner.
“Our goal is just to do the best that we can with the people we have,” said Coach Jim Brant. “Obviously, you always want to win ECC. That’s the main goal.”
Brant is optimistic, yet knows the challenges that loom ahead, including beating the Loveland Boys team, who has won the ECC title the last three years, and the Withrow Girls team, who not only won ECC last year but also won the DIvision I State Championship as well.
“It’ll be tough with Withrow and Loveland, but this is what we train and compete for, to be the best we can be,” said Brant.
Senior leader Ryan Broerman is looking for PR’s (Personal Record) and an ECC championship to close out his High School track career.
“This year will be the most meaningful because it’s my last chance to leave my mark on this team,” exclaimed Broerman. “I can’t wait to start competing and improve throughout the season. The coaches have been like second parents to me and I have a bunch of friends on the team. I can’t wait to enjoy my last year of track and, hopefully, win ECC.”
The next meet for the team is Friday, April 9 at Winton Woods for the City Finals.
