The girl’s varsity basketball team lost two tough games last week.
On Monday, January 21st, the Lady Knights traveled to Little Miami to square off with the cross-town rival Lady Panthers. Little Miami came into the game sitting at the top of the SWOC standings despite losing 3 of their last 4 contests.
The Lady Knights entered the game on a 3-game winning streak including a solid win against a fairly strong Loveland team.
Kings found themselves down 35-30 at the half, before putting together a 13-3 run in the third quarter to take the 43-38 lead.
The Lady Panthers went on a run of their own, finding themselves up 3 points with just seconds remaining. Senior guard Devin Biesbrock made a three-point field goal to send the game to overtime.
Ultimately, one overtime wasn’t enough to separate the two sides. Little Miami ended up beating Kings by a 64-61 scoreline in double OT.
The Lady Knights had another game on Saturday afternoon against the top ranked ECC squad, Walnut Hills.
Kings was over matched in a lot of aspects but fought hard to keep the game close. Senior Guard Lexi Sparks scored a team-high 16 points, including going a perfect 4-4 from three-point range.
The Lady Knights have a rescheduled game on Wednesday, January 30th against Monroe before playing a conference game against West Clermont on Saturday.
The boys varsity basketball team went 1-2 last week, with both losses coming against ECC opponents.
On Tuesday, January 22nd, the Knights played the Loveland Tigers, who are tied for second in the ECC. Senior Jakob Peters scored a season high 24 points in a 54-49 effort.
On Friday, January 25th the boy’s varsity team travelled to Withrow.
Despite only being down 23-22 at halftime, the Knights only scored 11 points the entire second half, while the Withrow Tigers scored 28, which led to a final of 51-33 in the Tiger’s favor.
On Saturday, January 26th, the Knights played their crosstown rivals, the Little Miami Panthers.
The game went back and forth all four quarters and the crowd was more energetic than usual, with both teams having large student sections cheering for every play that went their way.
Ultimately, the game swung in the Knight’s favor as they went on a late game run, winning 47-40. Ashton Koller helped seal the win with his season high 11 rebounds.
The Knight’s only play one game this upcoming week against ECC opponent Walnut Hills on Friday, February 1st, at home.
