Basketball Rundown
February 12, 2019
The boys varsity basketball team only played two games last week, both out of town, one against the ECC leaders, the West Clermont Wolves, and the other against the Lebanon Warriors.
On Friday, February 8th, the Knights knew they had a tough game against the West Clermont Wolves, the league leaders in blocks per game and third in rebounds per game. The Knights had trouble slowing Jackson Ames down as he went six for eight from the field, scoring 16 points while he also snagged 12 rebounded and four blocks.
The Knights had 2 players in double digits with Jakob Peters scoring 14 and Ashton Koeller scoring 10, but that was not enough to pull out the victory, losing 52-41.
On Saturday February 9th, the Knights travelled to Lebanon to play the Warriors who are second in the GWOC National West, with a 8-11 overall record.
The Knights kept the game close with PJ Marchal scoring 10 and Ashton Koeller also scoring 10 while adding eight rebounds.
With a big scoring burst in the fourth quarter, the Warriors ended up pulling out in front giving the Knights their 14th loss of the season, making them 6-14.
The Knights play their last home game of the season tonight against the Turpin Spartans, who are second in the ECC, and then travelling to Anderson for their last game of the regular season.
The OHSAA recently announced that the Kings Knights will travel to Hamilton to face their rivals, Little Miami Panthers, in the first round of the sectional tournament on Thursday February 21st.
The Lady Knights basketball team had their final regular season games last week. Kings started off the week with a home matchup with Ursuline Academy. The Lions came into the game with a .500 record of 9-9, including being 4-4 in the GGCL conference. The Lady Knights fought hard but ultimately the Lions were too much, dropping the game 61-40. Lexi Sparks had a team high 17 points for Kings, while shooting 6 of 13 from the floor, and two for two from the charity stripe.
Wednesday the Lady Knights traveled to Forest Hills for a conference clash with the Turpin Lady Spartans. Turpin entered the game with a struggling 3-16 record, winning just one of their eleven conference games up to that point. The Lady Knights took care of business, winning the game handily 42-27. Once again Lexi Sparks put together an exceptional scoring night, notching a team high 18 points. Lexi shot an impressive 60 percent from beyond the arc. Carolyn Bruns added 11 more points in the win.
Kings closed out their regular season campaign on Saturday. It was senior day at the castle. Unfortunately, the Lady Knights came up short, dropping a conference game to Anderson 40-34.
The Lady Knights will play in OHSAA tournament action next week, as they drew Loveland in the first round. The two split in the regular season, so the Lady Knights are looking to get the best two out of three with the Lady Tigers. The game will be on Saturday, February 16th at Sycamore High. Tip-off is at 2:30.
