KHS STEAM: Off to the races

This year the Kings High School Engineering II students have taken on a new challenge to design, construct, and race an electric car. They entered the Greenpower Electric Car Challenge, a project-based activity designed to help students to work with and understand technology and engineering on a higher level.

The students have been working on this car since the fall of 2016 under the instruction of KHS engineering teacher, Jason Shields, along with help from Siemens Product Lifecycle Management Software Inc. and Belcan LLC.   Read more of this post

Team Captain Bilbrey headed to Maryland

Senior women’s Lacrosse player and well-respected Team Captain Jessie Bilbrey signed to Frostburg State University in Maryland on April 12, after making a verbal commitment back in November. Jessie is guaranteed a spot on the team and will have to fight her way to a starting defensive spot on the team.   Read more of this post

Best of the Class: 2017

With Graduation Day coming up for the class of 2017, the students representing the class as Valedictorian and Salutatorian have been announced.

Hannah Rasmussen, Valedictorian, will be leaving high school with a GPA of 4.689 and an ACT score of 34.   Read more of this post

LAX lands Ryan a D3 scholarship

Erin Ryan, a senior at Kings, is a lacrosse commit to Marin University in Indiana. She will be a part of Marion’s second year lacrosse team and a major in their nursing program.

Ryan started playing lacrosse at age 13 in the 8th grade for Kings, since then she has become the starting line for defense and a dedicated member to the Royals summer lacrosse league. Erin will be receiving her second varsity letter this spring.   Read more of this post

Incline To The Finish Line

The 2017 Kings Track and Field team volunteered at the annual Incline to the Finish Line on Saturday, April 22 at Saint Joseph’s home in Cincinnati. The 5K event has been a Track and Field tradition for years and helps benefit those in the area with disabilities. Full gallery of the team and participants inside.

Art exhibit a ‘humbling’ experience

Kings High School art students took part in The Ohio Governor’s Youth Art Exhibition. This is the 47th year that the exhibition has taken place and it is open to 1,112 schools across the Ohio.   Read more of this post

‘Speak Up. Save A Life’

Kings High School recently presented the program Tyler’s Light to all students.

Tyler’s Light is an organization that was formed by a group of parents and Wayne Campbell after his son, Tyler passed away from an accidental drug overdose at the age of 23. Tyler’s Light showed students some videos that outlined the dangers of prescription drugs, heroin, and how drugs lead to addiction.  Read more of this post

Knights baseball heavy on experience

The Kings Varsity Baseball team has finally got a taste of spring with the semi-permitting weather. And since spring is right around the corner, fan and players are on the edge of their seats waiting.

With last season being extremely average, the players and coaches are excited to get back out there and see what the returning seniors can do. 7 starting seniors this season for the nights, Nick Plaatje, Alex Orr, Maguire Stinson, Gabe Stacy, Alex Sepulveda, Michael Havrilla and Zak Kroell.   Read more of this post

Mission to Monterrey

A few weeks ago, many students from Kings High School ventured across the world to Monterrey, Mexico, where they served the people there, specifically children who currently reside in a Children’s Home. The group went through an organization called Back2Back Ministries, an establishment that has locations of children’s homes all throughout the world. The specific children’s home that they visited was Douglas Children’s home, located minutes from the Back2Back campus.  Read more of this post

Track team adds pole-vault equipment

The Kings Track team has made multiple “upgrades” over the past few years. It all started probably 4-5 years ago when the entire track was torn up and replaced with a nicer, newer one. Then in a multi-year project, we added a steeplechase pit. And now in the grand daddy of them all, a much-needed new pole vault mat.  Read more of this post

Track team returns from NYC

On Saturday, March 11th, four athletes from the Kings High School indoor track team traveled to New York City to compete in the New Balance National Indoor Track Meet.

Hannah Rasmussen, a senior at Kings High School, competed in the mile race and the 4×800 meter relay along with Karleigh Connor, Leah Maschino, and Jennifer Cooper.
“It was so fun to compete at a national race. While every race is important, the amount of attention and excitement surrounding this race made the experience more special.” Said Rasmussen.   Read more of this post

 KHS showcases talent

Students hit the stage Monday night at 6pm in the second annual talent show at Kings. A wide variety of talents were showcased such as such as singing, interpretive dancing, acoustic guitar playing, piano and cello were also featured. The night concluded with Erin Ryan and Claire Galberg taking first place for their performance of an instrumental duet. Tianna Onnen and Adriann Bruemmer took second after singing together.

Winter 2017
 Student Art picked for display

Seven KHS Digital Media Arts students have been chosen to display their art for the “Artist Reaching Classrooms” exhibition at the Cincinnati and Hamilton County Public Library on April 12.

There will be one winner of a $200 gift card from each of the twelve schools that have entered their art; One People’s Choice Award winner of a $200 gift card; One award for “Best Artist Statement” winner and three top awards from the overall exhibition receiving Apple supplies such as iPads and Computers.  Read more of this post
