Winter sports recap

The Knights finished the bowling season district finalists. Senior Alex Schmidt recalls his favorite moments from the season. “Beating Milford in the last frame of the last game and winning by 4 points.” and vs Lebanon, Alex scored a 288 one of the highest scores in school history.

The women's swim team had the “best season in several years,” said senior Melanie Schweikert.The Knights won the 400 medley at the Ohio Southwest Classic which is a top competition in the nation. Freshman Maya Schweikert won ECC swimmer of the year after setting ECC records in the 100 fly and 200 IM.

The men's swim team lost a lot of seniors from last season but they still fielded a strong squad. Cooper Tinsley and Ethan Leamer both made state in the 500 freestyle. Will Ballard also qualified for state in the 100 backstroke and 100 fly. 

The wrestling season was riddled with injuries. Senior Said Miraliev and sophomore Gavin Crooks suffered season ending injuries. The young squad was still competitive in the ECC and hopes next season to be healthy and more experienced. 

The women’s gymnastics team also had a stellar season. They improved their scores week to week at meets until they placed 3rd out of 31 schools at City Championships. The close-knit team was led by Victoria Najem who finished 6th at state for vault, floor, and AA.  

The Quiz team was very much in a rebuilding year this season. With the loss of nine seniors from last year's squad the team was short-staffed. The squad was small but powerful. They finished top 5 in the ECC. The team hopes to grow their numbers, combining new strategies learned from walnut hills and Miami to improve next season. 

The dance team had a rebuilding season after the loss of seven seniors. Still had a very competitive season despite the loss of core members from last year's championship squad. They still finished the season as 2023 OASSA State runner ups and hope to carry this success into next season.
