2020 Movie Preview: Animated Films
February 3, 2020
Onward- March 6
Pixar’s next film looks like a fun fantasy romp that is sure to make us sob. The story, similar to “Weekend at Bernie’s ”follow two elf brothers (Tom Holland, Chris Pratt) and their quest to fully revive their father after only reviving him half way. On top of all of that, the Pixar visuals are beautiful in the preview and show a world similar to ours, but where myths and fantasy are normal to it’s inhabitants.
Scoob- May 15
This movie’s trailer was one of the cutest things of 2019. It shows Scooby and Shaggy meeting for the first time, which definitely is a sentimental moment. This movie gets a star-studded cast with Fred played by Zac Efron, Daphne by Amanda Seyfried, Velma by Gina Rodriguez, and Shaggy by Will Forte. This will be 44th movie in Scooby’s line-up along with the direct to DVD movies and the live-action movies of the early 2000s. Time will tell if this is a welcome addition or a “why?” addition.
Soul- June 19
Another Pixar movie that is sure to make us cry. This movie will follow a middle school teacher, who will be played by Jamie Fox, who loves jazz and finally gets a gig. However, in his excitement he gets into an accident. However, after the accident, he travels to the soul world, where he will meet a soul played by Tina Fey who has been there for a while. We don’t have a villain confirmed, yet, but this seems more like Inside Out. So, there may not be a villain. Another, Pixar tear-jerker I’m sure. Even the synopsis makes me sad.
Raya and The Last Dragon- November 25
For those of you wanting Disney to do something original, here you go. The story follows Raya (Cassie Steele) as she goes on a search in a mystical world for the last dragon (voiced by Awkwafina). We don’t know much, but we can’t wait to find out more. I hope she doesn’t have to kill said dragon and this goes closer to “How To Train Your Dragon” or “‘Pete’s Dragon”.
