From Oct. 20-31, the KHS National Honor Society is conducting a food drive for families in need in our community. All food collected will be sent to the Kings Local Food Pantry. Elisa King, NHS leader, said that this is our fifth year doing this drive and that it’s very beneficial.

“This is a great opportunity, because all collected food helps families around the district,” King said.

Each class at Kings High School is competing for who can get the most points per class number (food/number of students ratio). There is a point system set up for the different types of food. Classes will be awarded points based on what food they bring in. The top four classes will get a pizza party.

The food items needed:
Large canned meats(chicken or tuna)- 4 points
Hamburger Helper, baked beans, pinto beans, rice, peanut butter- 2 points
Large Cans(double normal size)- 2 points
Small canned meats(chicken or tuna)- 2 points
Normal sized cans(no green beans/corn)- 1 point
Pasta and $1- 1 point
Ramen noodles/other small food items- ½ point

The Pantry is in need of money to buy turkeys and other meats for the families.

While the main focus of the pantry is food, they also cater to other needs. Urgent needs include paper towels, tissue paper, deodorant, bath soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, shampoo, hand sanitizer, diapers, baby wipes, feminine hygiene products, dish soap, laundry detergent, and cleaning supplies.

“ All too often we find our shelves empty of certain items that our constituents use on a regular basis,” Kings Local Food Pantry says.

The Pantry also refers clients to other area agencies that can help with employment, health, and personal needs.

“The Mission of the Kings Local Food Pantry is to be an integral part of the community by serving those in need of food and/or temporary financial assistance,” the pantry says.

The Pantry says that their vision is continue to change the community for the better.

“Our vision is to impact lives in our community in a positive way while serving as an example of community spirit.”

Kings Local food pantry is located at 83 North Section Street, South Lebanon, Ohio, 45065. It is always in need of volunteers. Volunteer hours are Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 8:30-11:30 AM.

“Times are tough, but together we can pull through this period in American history and come out on the other side a much stronger nation.”
