On Monday, February 3rd, the Lady Knights travelled to Ursuline Academy to face the Lions in their last non-conference matchup. With the Lions having almost a .500 winning percentage, the Knights knew it’d be a tough game. After a hard fought matchup, the Lady Knights ended up dropping the away game 58-40.

On Wednesday, February 5th, the Lady Knights had their senior night while also hosting the Turpin Spartans. The Knights celebrated seniors Summer Bush, Chloe Clark, Natalee Erwin, Savannah Douglas, and Ella Schmidt.

After winning by three the last time the two teams faced off, the Ladies knew they had their work cut out for them against the 5th placed Spartans. With the help of a season high 19 points from Summer Bush, the Lady Knights cruised past the Spartans, outscoring them in the second half by 11 points. The Lady Knights went on to win the game 50-42.

“It was so sad knowing this was my last basketball game at Kings after playing 4 years here. I’m so happy we came out with the win and I hope we can bring this energy to the playoffs,” said Bush.

On Saturday, February 8th, the Lady Knights played their last game of the regular season at Anderson against the Redskins, who are ranked 4th in the ECC. Despite every player on the Lady Knights team scoring besides one, the Knights fell short of a win, losing the game 55-39. With this loss, it brings the Lady Knights ECC record to 4-10 and their overall record to 7-15, placing them seventh overall in the ECC.

The season is not over yet! The Lady Knights travel to Sycamore High School on Saturday February 15th at 2:30 to take revenge against the Anderson Redskins in the first round of the playoffs.

The Men’s varsity team hosted the West Clermont Wolves who rank second in the ECC standings on Friday, February 7. The Knights had a strong game offensively with 13 assists, led by seniors Jack McHugh and Cody Lockwood with four each. The Knights also shot 6/12 on three pointers led by senior Dylan Barnett, who went 4/6 from behind the arc. The Knights were led in scoring by Barnett and sophomore JD Moss with 13 points each, which helped the Knights upset the Wolves by a final score of 51-45.

“We were able to pull off the upset by executing the game plan and hitting shots,” senior Micah Belfrom said. The win brings the Knights’ conference record to 3-9, and brings them to a three-way-tie for sixth place in the ECC standings.

The Knights finished the week with their senior night game against the Lebanon Warriors at the Castle on Saturday, February 8. Seniors Dylan Barnett, Micah Belfrom, Bobby Conarroe, Casey Cook, Cody Lockwood, PJ Marchal, Jack McHugh, and Kyle Willging were recognized before the game.

The game was a tight back-and-forth battle from start to finish, with neither team able to pull ahead and maintain the lead. The Knights did an incredible job rebounding: grabbing an astounding 25 rebounds. Lockwood led the team with seven rebounds, with Belfrom and Marchal each grabbing four of their own. Barnett had another hot night, scoring a season high of 17 points, but his efforts weren’t enough, as the Warriors barely edged ahead of the Knights by a final score of 48-46. The loss brings the Knights’ overall record to 5-15.

The Knights look to finish the regular season strong and gain momentum heading into the OHSAA playoffs, playing their final home game of the season against the Anderson Redskins on Friday, February 14.

“We are treating the last week the same as the first week of the season. We are going to lock in, execute and hopefully win a couple of games before the playoffs start,” Belfrom said.
