2020 Musical Movie Preview

2020 has 2 musical movies debuting

Sarah Dykuizen

In The Heights- June 26

This adaptation of “Hamilton” creator Lin-Manuel Miranda’s first Tony-winning musical is sure to be better than “Cats”. In the Heights follows the story of New York City’s Washington Heights neighborhood and a store that sells a winning lottery ticket. Anthony Ramos (who played John Laurens and Philip Hamilton in the original cast of Hamilton) will take up Miranda’s original part, along with a mainly Latino cast. This movie’s theme of reclaiming your heritage is sure to be popular in 2020.

West Side Story- December 18th

The classic Broadway musical adaptation of Romeo and Juliet gets the big-screen treatment under Steven Spielberg.  The story follows two teenagers from opposite gangs and races who fall in love in the 1950s. Hopefully, this and “In The Heights” will make 2020 an excellent year for movie musicals. This movie features “Fault in Our Stars” star Ansel Elgort and debuts newcomer Rachel Zelger.
