Kings Senior football captain Tommy Bruns has been selected as a finalist for the National Football Foundation’s “That’s My Boy” Award. Tommy was the only athlete to receive this nomination from the Eastern Cincinnati Conference.

In order to qualify for this award the athlete must show exceptional football skills, a strong academic career and involvement in their community. Bruns’ football coach, Andy Olds says he demonstrates all these qualifications and more.

“Tommy is the same person on the field and off, this award is a big indication of his overall character,” Olds said.

Coaches and teammates are all able to see why Bruns is nominated. Sean Horan, Kings Class of 2012 finalist and also Bruns’ former teammate says,

“Tommy played on the varsity scout team as a freshman when I was a senior, my favorite part about him was that he never took a play off, attacked the game with an incredible attitude, and always had a smile on his face.”

On March 3. all finalists will be awarded and the winner will be announced at Westin Hotel in downtown Cincinnati. There are only nine finalists from southwest Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana.

This award is a big honor and there have been multiple former Kings students who have been a finalist or winner.

“It was incredibly flattering to be nominated for such an award. To even be nominated means that you are the most well rounded athlete in your league and Tommy Bruns deserves every bit of it,” says Horan.

As Bruns recieves this nomination he reflects on the impact his community had on him and how it shaped him to be who he is today,

“It’s very humbling to receive this nomination, it reminds me of all the opportunities I’ve had in my community. It feels awesome.”

Bruns will be attending The United States Air Force Academy next fall to play football. According to Olds, Bruns’ future looks bright,

“Tommy will do big things in his career, he’s capable of doing something shocking and I can’t wait to see what it’ll be.”
