Saturday, March 8 from 11 am- 4 pm J.F Burns Elementary will be hosting its 29th annual Krazy Karnival. Festivities include games, food, raffles, and much more.

According to PTO president Shannon Russel one of the most popular events is the basket raffle. Each class is assigned a theme and students are to bring in items for their basket. Some of the themes include “Let’s Do Lunch” , “ The Spirit of Cincinnati” , and “Tailgate Party” Last year there was even the chance to win an American Girl Doll, a TV, and a child’s bicycle. Here is a list of this year’s basket themes.

Fourth grader Zach Johnson has attended the Krazy Karnival 4 times and is a big fan. His favorite part is all the games and prizes.

“I love it! My favorite game is the fish bowl game,” Johnson said. “If you win you get a free fish from Jacks Aquarium.”

According to Russel, on average about $10,000 is raised each year from the Krazy Karnival. All donations and proceeds go to PTO-sponsored projects. The majority of its funds go towards in-school enrichment programs such as, Poetry Alive, Native American storytelling, and a hands-on Dinosaur Dig.

“Without a successful Krazy Karnival, we would not be able to provide so many wonderful in-school enrichment programs for the students. It also brings a sense of community to the school and shows a lot of school spirit.”

In order to make all this happen about 100 junior high/ high school volunteers and an additional 75 adult volunteers are needed.

“It really is a community-wide effort. High schoolers can even earn community service hours by helping us.” said Russel.
