The Kings Knights varsity football team launched their 2016 campaign Friday night with a trouncing of the Lebanon Warriors in the sixth-annual Boomerang Bowl.
The Boomerang Bowl, presented by Outback Steakhouse, began with the pregame tailgate starting at 5 p.m., leading all the way up to game time at 7. Among the food, drinks and fun during the pregame there were also performances by the Kings High school band, cheerleaders and dance team.
Hundreds of Kings community members showed up, and if visitors didn’t get a chance to sink their teeth into some Outback and enjoy the high-school performances at the tailgate, they had the chance to see the future of Knights athletics, the youth football and cheerleading teams, take a walk down the hill and get announced on the field prior to the game.
The Knights fought hard in the first and second quarter, heading into halftime with a score of 14-7 Kings . “The Knights received some well deserved recognition during halftime for their outstanding athletic accomplishments in their 2015-2016 seasons” – Kings Knights athletic director, Tyler Miller said after the women’s swim team, men’s track and field team, and varsity football team were recognized during the halftime show.
After the recognition the Knights came back out and defeated the Warriors 35-7. The team will next face Xenia in an away game on Sept. 2.
