On Saturday, March 11th, four athletes from the Kings High School indoor track team traveled to New York City to compete in the New Balance National Indoor Track Meet.
Hannah Rasmussen, a senior at Kings High School, competed in the mile race and the 4×800 meter relay along with Karleigh Connor, Leah Maschino, and Jennifer Cooper.
“It was so fun to compete at a national race. While every race is important, the amount of attention and excitement surrounding this race made the experience more special.” Said Rasmussen.
Rasmussen achieved her goal of running a sub 5:00 minute mile with a time of 4:49.73 and came in first place in her heat. She placed 5th overall in the emerging elite division.
Rasmussen also competed in the 4×800 meter relay later on in the competition with her teammates including Karleigh Connor.
“It was definitely one I’ll never forget, one of the most fun weekends of my life!” said Connor about the meet. “All we wanted to do was qualify for the championship race and that’s what we did!”
The team ran a time of 9:23.62 minutes and placed 13th overall.
“Even though our time wasn’t a pr & we didn’t earn all American status, we still had tons of fun racing!” said Connor.
As the team transitions into the outdoor track season, the girls finish celebrating an amazing weekend in New York and are now preparing for what they hope will be an equally successful outdoor track season.
