“At first I wasn’t worried, but after the number of cases started to rise and school was called off, I started to think about what was going to happen and how I should react. Type 1 diabetes professionals have released statements saying that if a type 1 diabetic were to get the virus, it should be treated just like how we would treat a type 1 diabetic who got the flu or some other viral illness: staying hydrated, testing for ketones, and staying aware of my blood glucose patterns to make sure no extreme levels are reached. I haven’t taken any extra precautions really because there’s nothing I can do besides the normal safety measures everyone else is doing. I hope everyone will keep in mind that even if they don’t care if they are affected, they should remember who they could potentially pass the virus to and that would have a decreased chance of recovery.”
