‘Bella Notte’

promposter

It’s once again that time of year. The prom-posals have begun, court nominations are being processed, dresses are being chosen, and the dance theme has been set.

It looks to be a bella notte – or “beautiful night” – for hundreds of Kings students this year

On Saturday, May 10, Kings High School juniors and seniors will have the opportunity to attend the school’s annual prom at the Great Wolf Lodge.

Doors open at 5 p.m. and the dance goes until 11. Tickets are $70 and include dinner. New this year, students will be able to order filet mignon, “a real steak dinner” according to Melanie Contratto the woman that makes this all happen.

The theme for this year’s prom is Bella Notte, which means “beautiful night” in Italian. Contratto enjoys helping with prom because she “enjoys organizing and decorating and seeing all the ideas come together.”

On Friday, juniors and seniors voted for this year’s Prom King and Queen during their fifth bell classes. The top five vote-getters on the ballot are named to Prom Court. From that group, the King and Queen are kept secret until prom night, when the couple is announced during the big dance.

According to Contratto, the night would not be possible without the help of her prom committee (12 people) and about 30 volunteers the Friday before and the day of.

All together it takes about 12 hours Friday afternoon/night and about 5 hours Saturday morning. Lets not forget about the 6 hours of clean-up it takes to take all the decorations down and clean everything up.

Contratto enjoys seeing all their hard work pay off and seeing how everything looks when it’s all done.

“One of my favorite things is seeing all the kids arrive and the looks on their faces”

Senior Jamie Tudor went to prom last year and had a lot of fun and plans to go again this year.

“The best part is you get to interact with people you don’t normally interact with at school”

Tudor really enjoyed prom last year, but is hoping for better music and food this year. Tudor recommends everybody goes to prom whether you have a date or just go with a group of friends.

“It’s one of those things you will regret when you’re older if you don’t do “
