‘As Above’ so below par

The movie starts out with Scarlett (Perdita Weeks), a young alchemy scholar, who is trying to continue her dad’s legend of searching for Flamel’s Stone or the Philosopher stone. She travels to Europe to visit the catacombs, enlisting the help of several other young adults in trying to  find the stone, while following clues that she has found along the way. While in the catacombs strange things start to occur that they can not explain. What will happen to the gang?

‘As Above, So Below’ is a non-scary horror movie that has nothing to supply but cheap scares such as jump scares. This movie had a good concept that could have been developed into a more scary plot, but instead it resorts to cheap tricks. You also really don’t feel anything for the characters as their is never any development with them. You don’t feel emotions when they get hurt, and you really could care less if they lived or died. It was not the actors fault, it was the poor directing of the director, and writing of the screenwriter. This movie is not worth the $11 to get into it, and I would highly recommend that people don’t see the movie in general.

‘If I Stay’ should not stay in the theater for that long.

This movie revolves around a young girl named Mia Hall (Chloë Grace Moretz) who gets in a car crash and enters into a coma. While she is in a coma she starts remembering all her past memories, the good ones and the bad ones. She frequently remembers her boyfriend, Adam (Jamie Blackley), and wonders what it would be like if she woke up or if she should just let go and die. Is life even worth living?

This movie can be entertaining, but at times it is very cheesy and not worth your time. More than anything it is the plot that makes it interesting, but with the acting, it is not executed well. Chloe Grace Moretz has a horrible emotional face, and she is emotional throughout the whole movie. Jamie Blackley is pretty good with his acting, but the chemistry is not the greatest between the two actors. You really don’t feel that much emotions for them. Another thing that was bothersome, is that the movie ends very abruptly, and I didn’t feel the resolve that I should have felt. It really is a movie for the teen girl audience, and nothing more, and not a good one by any means.
