Kings High School offers lots of clubs and sports teams, but one of the newest and most popular sports is Kings Bowling Team.

Kings Bowling Team is coached by John Karabinus, who is also a Kings Junior High teacher. The girls and boys teams practice once or twice a week at the beginning of the season until the end of the season in February.

This year KBT has a record high of bowlers with a total of 23 boys and 23 girls. There are two JV teams and one varsity team for boys, as well as two JV teams and one varsity teams for girls. 

“Our boy’s team should be very competitive,” Karabinus said. “We expect big things this season. We are led by seniors, Jacob Irwin, Cullan Karabinus, Payton Hilderbrand, Parker Thibodeau, and Kyle Taylor.”

Karabinus expects the most difficult competition this season will be against Glen Este, Milford, and Loveland who always seem to be formidable opponents.

The girl’s team is also looking forward to “striking down” their opponents.

“Our girl’s varsity has some returning bowlers and some new bowlers. The girls will be led by Kira Doeberiener, Corinne Brown, and Lauren Goslee. We will battle every opponent and hopefully win a few big matches,” Karabinus said.

This season’s opener was Nov. 17 against Ross High School at the Mason Bowling Alley which is Kings’ home valley and Kings men’s varsity and JV, and the women’s JV won. The Knights were led by Cullan Karabinus who rolled a 253 and Matthew Oberlin who rolled a 205.

Karabinus said one of his favorite parts of the KBT season is for him to watch bowlers get their personal bests.

Senior varsity team member, Kyle Taylor said he also is looking to bowl his personal best.

“My personal best has been 248, but this year I only plan on getting 300’s.”
