Boys of Summer prepare

baseball

With Kings basketball winding up its year, the school look outdoors for its next big sporting season: baseball.

Tryouts and team placements for varsity and junior varsity start on Monday.

After a 15-14 overall record last season and a 6th-place finish in the conference, the Knights look towards incoming Senior and Junior leadership to push for a conference title.

Senior and future-college baseball player Nathan Gambill (pictured above) who recently signed with Concord University, said, “I believe we can pull it out this year. I really do I think it’s our time.”

The Knights’ biggest challenge will be Loveland. Though they finished 3rd in the league last season, the two teams ahead of them (Milford and Glen Este) lost many of their starters.

Kings is returning four starters this season in catcher/first baseman Gambill, outfielder Bryson Lonsbury, shortstop Tyler Falconbury, and pitcher Jake Burke, alongside incoming talent from the junior class such as Alex Orr.

“I look forward to just competing at the varsity level and especially playing at Prasco,” Orr said, referring to the annual Kings vs. Mason game at the famed Prasco Field.

The first game of the season isn’t until March 28, just a little over a month: a month to place people on teams and practice, while also coming up with a game plan and signs. It really is not much time to prepare.

The baseball team’s first game is 5 p.m. March 28 at “The Castle” and the 100-inning Game annual fundraiser will be before that.
