Kings alumnus Katelyn Haralamos has found her way back into the community and back onto the Knight’s basketball court. This time not as a star player, but as the head coach.

Haralamos was a Kings student from kindergarten through 12th grade and started her basketball career at the age of 5.

Haralamos says her basketball career really took off in junior high after playing at a more competitive level, attending multiple showcases for basketball, and participating in elite camps.

After graduating from Kings High School in 2011, with four varsity basketball letters, Haralamos continued her career at Wittenberg University. While competing at a college level, Haralamos earned another four varsity letters, was a two-time NCAC Honorable Mention, and NCAC First Team in 2015.

Haralamos was also chosen to compete in the Zimmerman Classic Kiwanis All-Tournament team three times, and was a two-time MVP of the tournament. In her senior year at Wittenberg Haralamos joined the 1,000 point club and left Wittenberg as the 7th All-Time Leading Scorer.

Now, after an amazing career with the Wittenberg Tigers Haralamos is back at Kings to help the Lady Knights in their upcoming basketball season and is very excited to be back at Kings. Haralamos says, “It feels great to be back in the Kings Community. I honestly can’t stay away. Even throughout my time at college, I had all of the support from the Kings Community.”

Leading into the season, Haralamos plans to get the Lady Knights started with open gyms and weight lifting beginning in the fall. Haralamos states, “I have a number of different expectations for the season and I know the girls do as well. However, a main focus is on winning the league. I feel that would be a huge statement as a first year coach.”

Haralamos isn’t the only one who is excited for the season to begin. Senior, Mackenzie Marcum says, “I am excited to work with coach Kate. She seems to love the game as much as I do. I think she will be good for my senior year. She played high school and college basketball and that’s my goal too.”

Haralamos looks forward to the season and can’t wit to build relationships with the Lady Knights.

“You learn so many things when playing sports in general. I know how to be competitive in the workplace, I know how to handle tough conversations with an employer/coach/teacher, I can take critical feedback, I know how to bounce back from a season ending injury, I can build relationships with others, I have learned to be a better friend, and most importantly – I can learn from my own mistakes,” she said.

“I want the girls to be able to relate to me. I was just in their shoes 5 years ago. I want them to be proud of the school, community, and team they come from.”
