On Oct. 8, Kings math teacher Lynn Brant was inducted into the Akron University Athletic Hall of Fame. One of two UA athletes to ever receive GTE Academic All American honors 3 times. And she was named UA’s scholar athlete of the year in 1989-90
“I was probably more focused on school than running.” Brant said of that time.
That makes her achievements even more impressive — eight letters between Cross Country and Track and Field. Brant served as a captain for both the Cross Country and Track teams her final two seasons of school.
In 1989-90 she won the Cleveland State cross country meet, sixth at Tom Evans invitational, and 11th at the NSC (North Star Conference) Cross Country Championship.
In 1991 she placed 3rd to help the “Zips” win the NSC Cross Country Championship. Earning her 1st team All-NSC honors and of course a spot on the All-NSC Academic team.
Her son Taylor Brant, who is currently a senior at Kings, said, “I never really knew much about her running career. She was always just Mom the Cross Country and Track coach to me.”
Mrs. Brant has been teaching and coaching at Kings since 1994. She teaches calculus and still coaches Cross Country and Track with her husband, Jim.
