The Varsity Football team took care of the Withrow Tigers for homecoming last Friday September 28th with a score of 55-6.

Withrow came into the game with a record of 1-4, their lone win coming from a forfeit due to OHSAA rule violations.

Kings came into the game 4-1 and a 25 point favorite.

The Knights made their presence known early, scoring three first quarter touchdowns, including a 47 yard run in the opening minute by senior running back Nak’emon Williams.

senior quarterback Ashton Koller had a solid game under center for the Knights. In one half of play, Koller racked up 108 all-purpose yards and three total touchdowns.

Koller was five for seven passing with two of those five completions going for touchdowns. He also added his second rushing touchdown of the year with a 20 yard scramble at the beginning of the second quarter.

The Knights had a ton of big plays in this game, including a 77-yard Kickoff return for a touchdown by senior defensive-back Max Mckelvey.

This is the first kickoff return touchdown since the Knights joined the ECC in 2012, and the first special teams touchdown for the Knights since a blocked punt return by Jackson Hacker against Withrow the previous year.

Kings finally got a scoring outburst as they tallied up 48 first-half points and 55 total points for the game.

The offense was spread around with seven different players seeing the end-zone, including first career touchdowns from junior wide-receiver Cody Lockwood and sophomore running back Noah Flinchum.

Flinchum is normally the running back for the JV team but got his chance to run the ball on the varsity level for the first time against Withrow.

“Being in for the first time on the Varsity level was really nerve-racking yet eye-opening. I worked really hard all summer and I’m glad it all finally paid off,” Flinchum told the Knight Times.

If getting in wasn’t enough, Flinchum was the Knights leading rusher, totaling 90 rushing yards on 11 attempts and a touchdown that came late in the first half. The touchdown was Noah’s first at the varsity level.

“Having my first touchdown on the varsity level was one of the greatest feelings,” Flinchum said.

The win moves the Knights to 5 and 1. They are tied for first in the ECC with 5 and 1 Milford. The two will clash on October 12th at the castle for what will likely decide who takes the outright ECC title.

In terms of the OHSAA playoffs, the Knights are in good shape. They are currently first in Division II region 8, with three of their last four games being against Division I schools.

If Kings wins out they are going to most likely remain the number one seed in the region, which would earn them hosting rights in the first round.

The team looks to stay on track as they travel to Walnut Hills on Friday October 5th for another ECC contest.

Kings has had their way with the Eagles in recent years, having not lost to Walnut in the ECC era dating back to 2012.

Walnut comes into the game with a 1-5 record and winless in the conference, but with talent like Jowon Briggs (Virginia Commit) the Knights offensive line will have its hands full all night.
