Tennis wraps up winning season
The Lady Knights Varsity Tennis Team is set to finish off the year strong. The Lady Knights head into their last week of regular season play with a 8-5 record and sectionals looming.
The team had strong wins over Cincinnati Country Day, Milford, and Talawanda with tough losses coming to Sycamore and Loveland. Despite finishing 5th in the ECC, the Lady Knights posed to be a tough opponent for anyone.
The Lady Knights were composed of singles players Lindsay Leighton, Lindsey Kasemeyer and Haley Guerin. Doubles players included Mailys Terrier and Cecilia Reich at first doubles, and Katie Hacker and Madison Reckman at second doubles.
Coach Hennessey was very impressed with the team’s overall improvement from last year. “They’re more consistent than last year.” Hennessey said. “They know how to close out matches which is something they struggled with last year.” Hennessey stated. “A lot of them worked hard during the offseason and it really showed.”
Haley Guerin looks to be a freshman with a lot of potential for the future. Through her first season on varsity at 3rd singles, she has accumulated 6 wins and only 3 losses. “I think the season was a success. We had a lot of good wins.” Haley said. “It was a challenge getting a feel for the team, but the senior leadership really helped out.”
Senior and second doubles player Madison Reckman looked to make her last season as a Knight memorable. “I played really well this season.” Reckman said. “I worked a lot on my game and fitness during the winter and I think it really helped.” Madison said. “It’s very emotional, playing some of these teams for the last time was very sentimental.”
The Lady Knights have one final match against Springboro to wrap up the regular season. For more updates and information, you can follow Kings Athletics on Twitter @kingsathletics.
