A Knight on Broadway

This Saturday, Feb. 13, at 7:30 p.m., Kings High School will be hosting “A Knight on Broadway” starring eight of King’s top theatre students: Grant Abbott, Ryan Dilts, Miranda Schooler, Bryson Wires, Morgan Reece, Michael Kaper, Amy Helms, and Zoey Fitzgerald Kidwell.

Grant Abbott, the creator of “A Knight on Broadway,” said he decided to put on this production after plans for a Music Mania fell through.

“Every year the choir department does a fundraiser called Music Mania and this year there wasn’t enough band interest so we had to cancel it,” Abbott said. “We had the idea to give the musical theatre kids another opportunity to perform songs that normally we wouldn’t get the opportunity to do.”

What makes a “Knight on Broadway” unique from previous musicals is that it is actually a ‘montage’ of famous broadway songs and dances and sews them together making it a cabaret musical.

“Some of the more recognizable pieces we will be doing are from Phantom of the Opera, West Side Story, and Pippin,” said senior Brianna Stottmann, who is helping with the production.

“But we have a lot of contemporary plays as well such as Heather, Ordinary Days, Dogfight, Children of Eden and many more,” added Grant.

Currently the production is being self-funded by students in the production. They rehearse after school and have received no outside funding or help.

“All of the sets, costumes, all of it was out of pocket from the performers,” said Stottmann.

Tickets are $5 for students and $8 for adults with all the proceeds going to the King’s Stage Lighters Booster Organization which will fund for all public plays and musicals in the Kings area.
